About University of Otago
Founded in 1869, the University of Otago (Māori: Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka) is New Zealand's oldest university and one of the southern hemisphere's most respected public research institutions. Located primarily in the vibrant collegiate city of Dunedin on the South Island, Otago is celebrated globally for its world-class Division of Health Sciences—incorporating New Zealand's sole Faculty of Dentistry and its preeminent Medical School—alongside elite faculties in Sciences, Humanities, and the EQUIS- and AACSB-accredited Otago School of Business. Educating over 21,000 students including more than 3,000 international scholars from over 100 countries, Otago provides an immersive, collegiate residential campus culture along the picturesque Water of Leith. International students enjoy low student-to-faculty ratios, high-impact clinical and field research opportunities from sub-Antarctic marine environments to cutting-edge biomedical genomics laboratories, and generous New Zealand post-study work visa rights.
