The University of New England (UNE) is a distinguished public research university located in Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1938 as the New England University College (a college of the University of Sydney) and granted full independence by an Act of the NSW State Parliament in 1954, UNE became the first Australian university established outside a state capital city. The university is a national pioneer in distance and online flexible learning and is internationally acclaimed for its research and teaching excellence in agriculture, rural science, animal genetics, environmental management, education, nursing, rural medicine, and regional law.
