About University of Manitoba
The University of Manitoba (UM) is Manitoba’s premier research-intensive post-secondary institution and a proud member of the prestigious U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities. Founded in 1877 as Western Canada’s first university, UM is located in the culturally vibrant and economically diverse city of Winnipeg on the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Red River Métis. UM serves an engaged community of nearly 31,000 undergraduate and graduate students, including over 6,800 international students from 120+ countries, supported by more than 10,000 dedicated faculty and staff. The university encompasses world-leading professional faculties, including the Asper School of Business, Price Faculty of Engineering, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources, Faculty of Architecture, and Robson Hall Faculty of Law. With annual sponsored research revenues exceeding $230 million, UM researchers spearhead groundbreaking global discoveries in infectious diseases, Arctic sea-ice climatology, human rights, advanced materials, and sustainable food systems across its two major urban campuses—Fort Garry and Bannatyne.
