About University of Ferrara
Founded in 1391 by Marquis Alberto V d'Este with the authorization of Pope Boniface IX, the University of Ferrara (Università degli Studi di Ferrara — UniFe) is one of Europe’s oldest and most illustrious public research universities. Situated in Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna—a magnificent Renaissance walled city celebrated as a UNESCO World Heritage site and acclaimed as Italy’s "City of Bicycles"—UniFe offers an exceptional academic experience where Renaissance heritage merges seamlessly with 21st-century scientific innovation. Distinguished alumni including astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (doctorate in canon law, 1503) and physician Paracelsus cemented Ferrara’s legacy in the history of science. Today, UniFe educates over 28,000 students across 13 specialized departments, featuring English-taught degree tracks in Medicine and Surgery (single-cycle 6-year MD via IMAT), Physics, Electronic Communications Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science & Nanotechnology, Georesources Engineering, and Green Economy and Sustainability. With its world-renowned Department of Architecture at Palazzo Tassoni Estense, cutting-edge Arcispedale Sant'Anna hospital complex at Cona, generous ER.GO Emilia-Romagna regional scholarships, accessible flat-rate international tuition, and bicycle-friendly urban living, the University of Ferrara represents a premier destination for global scholars.
