About University of Cumbria
The University of Cumbria is an innovative, community-anchored public university in North West England, officially formed in 2007 through the historic merger of St Martin's College (dating back to 1964), the Cumbria Institute of the Arts (established in 1896), and the Charlotte Mason College in Ambleside (founded in 1891). Cumbria is uniquely positioned with campuses set across the historic border city of Carlisle, the Georgian city of Lancaster, and the dramatic mountainous landscape of the Lake District National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) in Ambleside. Organised into five academic institutes—the Institute of Health, Institute of the Arts, Institute of Science and Environment (home to the internationally renowned National School of Forestry), Institute of Business, Industry and Leadership, and Institute of Education, Arts and Society—the university provides world-class education in environmental conservation, forestry, outdoor leadership, nursing and healthcare professions, policing, creative arts, and teacher education. With world-leading outdoor laboratories right on its doorstep, state-of-the-art health simulation suites, small class sizes, and strong industry partnerships with regional employers such as the NHS, BAE Systems, and the National Trust, the University of Cumbria equips students from over 100 countries with the real-world skills and professional qualifications to make an enduring impact.
