About University of Bergen
The University of Bergen (Norwegian: Universitetet i Bergen – UiB) is one of Norway's premier public research universities, officially founded in 1946 with academic lineages tracing back to the Bergen Museum established in 1825. Situated in the heart of Bergen on Norway's scenic Atlantic coast, UiB is an urban university with approximately 19,500 students and over 4,200 faculty and researchers across seven renowned faculties: Fine Art, Music and Design; Humanities; Law; Mathematics and Natural Sciences; Medicine; Psychology; and Social Sciences. UiB is internationally celebrated as Norway's marine university and a world leader in climate, oceanographic, and sustainable development research. It is the academic anchor of the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research—one of the world's top climate modeling institutions—and ranks among the top global institutions for UN Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water). With cutting-edge laboratories at Marineholmen, clinical hubs at Haukeland University Hospital, creative spaces at Møllendal, and historical landmarks along Nygårdshøyden, UiB provides high-caliber research-led education in an inspiring coastal European metropolis.
