About University at Buffalo
The University at Buffalo, State University of New York (UB / SUNY Buffalo), founded in 1846 as a private medical college with Millard Fillmore (the 13th President of the United States) serving as its inaugural chancellor, is the largest and most comprehensive public research university in New York State and the designated flagship institution of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. An elected member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU) since 1989 and classified as a Carnegie Tier-1 R1 doctoral university with very high research activity, UB generates over $430 million in annual sponsored research expenditures. Spanning three dynamic campuses across the Buffalo-Niagara metropolitan region—the 1,200-acre flagship North Campus in Amherst, the historic 150-acre South Campus on Main Street featuring landmark Hayes Hall, and the downtown Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus hosting the state-of-the-art Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences—UB provides an intellectually transformative home for more than 32,000 students from all 50 states and over 100 countries. UB encompasses 12 distinguished academic schools offering over 140 undergraduate degrees and more than 300 graduate and professional pathways: the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (ABET-accredited leader in AI, robotics, aerospace, and computing), the School of Management (AACSB-accredited business powerhouse), the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (#14 in the nation), the School of Law (the only law school in the SUNY system), the School of Architecture and Planning, the School of Dental Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Public Health and Health Professions, and the Graduate School of Education. Bolstered by competitive tuition rates, the renewable International Student Flagship Scholarship, the University Honors College Presidential Scholarship, and full-tuition-waiver Graduate Assistantships (GTA/GRA), UB is a global destination for premier education, groundbreaking discovery, and community leadership.
