About The Open University
The Open University (OU) is a world-renowned British public distance-learning research university founded by Royal Charter in 1969. Headquartered on a picturesque 110-acre research estate in Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, with national administrative centers in Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast, the OU is the largest university in the United Kingdom and one of the largest in Europe by enrollment, educating more than 205,000 students. Conceived by Prime Minister Harold Wilson and championed by Minister for the Arts Jennie Lee, the OU pioneered the radical principle of "Open Admissions," offering undergraduate degrees without formal entry prerequisites. World-famous for its 50-year documentary co-production partnership with the BBC (producing Planet Earth and Blue Planet), the triple-accredited Open University Business School (AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS), and space instrumentation for ESA and NASA missions, the OU has transformed higher education accessibility across 157 countries.
