About The Danish National School of Performing Arts
The Danish National School of Performing Arts (Den Danske Scenekunstskole - DDSKS) is Denmark’s premier state higher artistic educational institution dedicated entirely to the dramatic arts, dance, choreography, and contemporary stage craft. Operating directly under the Danish Ministry of Culture (Kulturministeriet), DDSKS was established on 1 January 2015 through the historic consolidation of four prominent performing arts academies: the Danish National School of Theatre and Contemporary Dance in Copenhagen (Statens Teaterskole, founded 1967), the Aarhus Drama School (Skuespillerskolen ved Aarhus Teater, founded 1949), the Odense Drama School (Skuespillerskolen ved Odense Teater), and the Danish Musical Academy in Fredericia (Musicalakademiet Fredericia, founded 2000). DDSKS delivers rigorous, studio-based higher education across four vibrant Danish cultural hubs: the flagship campus on the historic maritime quarter of Holmen in central Copenhagen, and specialised campuses in Aarhus, Odense, and Fredericia. Offering accredited 3-year Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and 2-year Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees, the institution nurtures actors, contemporary dancers, choreographers, stage directors, scenographers, playwrights, sound designers, lighting directors, and production managers, shaping the future of European theatre, dance, and interdisciplinary performance art.
