About State Border Guard College of the Republic of Latvia
Established in 1992 immediately following the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Latvia and reformed into an accredited higher education college in 2006, the State Border Guard College (Valsts robežsardzes koledža - VRK) is the premier national educational institution operating under the direct authority of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Latvia and the State Border Guard. Located in Rēzekne—the strategic gateway to Latvia’s eastern frontier—the college is tasked with training tactical officers, inspectors, canine specialists, and forensic document examiners responsible for safeguarding more than 450 kilometers of the European Union and Schengen Area external land and maritime borders with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. VRK offers state-accredited Short-Cycle First-Level Professional Higher Education degrees (EQF Level 5) awarding the officer rank of Junior Officer, 1-year vocational cadet qualifications, and in-service tactical specialization courses. With zero tuition fees, guaranteed monthly cadet salaries (€900 to €1,100+), modern residential quarters, a specialized Cynology Centre (K9 Service), indoor swimming pools, and the multi-hectare tactical field polygon "Janopole", the college operates in close coordination with FRONTEX (European Border and Coast Guard Agency) and international law enforcement partners.
