About Royal Academy of Music
The Royal Academy of Music (RAM), founded in 1822 by John Fane, 11th Earl of Westmorland, and incorporated by Royal Charter under King George IV in 1830, is Britain’s oldest degree-granting music conservatoire and one of the world’s most prestigious higher education academies for musical training. As a constituent college of the federal University of London, the Academy trains extraordinarily gifted instrumentalists, vocalists, opera singers, conductors, and composers from more than 70 nations across the globe. Situated in an iconic heritage campus on Marylebone Road beside Regent’s Park in central London, the institution boasts world-renowned concert and theatrical facilities, including the historic 450-seat Duke’s Hall (built in 1911 and home to the Sir Henry Wood Proms heritage), the state-of-the-art Susie Sainsbury Theatre, the Angela Burgess Recital Hall, and the York Gate Museum which curates one of the world’s most significant collections of historic instruments, including priceless Stradivari, Amati, and Guarneri violins. With a faculty comprised of premier international soloists, concertmasters, and recording artists, the Academy maintains an unparalleled artistic pedigree. Its alumni have defined world music across three centuries, including Sir Simon Rattle, Dame Felicity Lott, Sir John Barbirolli, Sir Arthur Sullivan, Sir Elton John, Annie Lennox, Miloš Karadaglić, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, and multi-Grammy laureate Jacob Collier. Heavily committed to talent over financial background, over 80% of admitted students receive merit-based scholarship awards.
