About Prefectural University of Hiroshima
Prefectural University of Hiroshima (公立大学法人 県立広島大学 Kenritsu Hiroshima Daigaku / PUH), established in April 2005 through the strategic unification of three historic prefectural higher education institutions—Hiroshima Women’s University (founded in 1920), Hiroshima Prefectural University (founded in 1989 in Shobara), and Hiroshima Prefectural College of Health and Welfare (founded in 1995 in Mihara)—is a premier public research university situated across Hiroshima Prefecture in the Chugoku region of western Japan. Operating across three specialized, distinct campuses—the flagship Hiroshima Campus in Minami-ku (Hiroshima City), the scenic highland Shobara Campus (inland bio-resources hub), and the coastal Mihara Campus overlooking the picturesque Seto Inland Sea—PUH educates approximately 2,800 students (including ~2,500 undergraduates and ~300 postgraduates) under the mentorship of over 250 faculty members. The university comprises 3 foundational Undergraduate Faculties—Faculty of Regional Development, Faculty of Biological Resources, and Faculty of Health and Welfare—alongside the Graduate School of Comprehensive Scientific Research and the specialized Prefectural University of Hiroshima Business School (HBMS - Graduate School of Business Administration). Renowned for its community-engaged experiential education, sustainable agricultural ecology, advanced rehabilitation medicine, nursing, and practical management, PUH offers international scholars standard statutory public university tuition (¥535,800/yr), comprehensive 50% to 100% Tuition Fee Exemptions, MEXT Japanese Government Scholarships, JASSO Honors stipends, and deep collaborations with Hiroshima’s manufacturing and biomedical sectors.
