About Pallas University of Applied Sciences
Pallas University of Applied Sciences (Estonian: Kõrgem Kunstikool Pallas) is a prominent, state-funded public higher education institution situated in Tartu, Estonia. Carrying the visionary legacy of the historical Pallas Art School established in 1919, Pallas was reconstituted as an autonomous applied higher education college in 2000 and stands as the only specialized applied arts and design university in Estonia. The university operates through eight distinguished academic departments spanning Design, Conservation/Restoration, and the Fine Arts: Photography, Media and Advertisement Design, Interior Product Design (Furniture Design & Restoration), Leather Product Design & Technology, Textile, Painting & Restoration, Sculpture, and Conservation & Restoration. Delivering first-level professional higher education (Bachelor’s equivalent, 240 ECTS credits over 4 years), Pallas emphasizes master-apprentice atelier training, cutting-edge material experimentation, digital prototyping, and deep collaboration with heritage institutions and creative industries across Northern Europe. Pallas operates two central hubs in Tartu: the flagship academic campus in the bohemian Karlova district equipped with 3D prototyping labs, Mac studios, darkrooms, and textile weaving suites, and the prominent Gallery Pallas (Riia 11) in central Tartu, showcasing dynamic contemporary exhibitions, national design biennial displays, and international graduate projects.
