About Osaka Metropolitan University
Osaka Metropolitan University (公立大学法人 大阪公立大学 Osaka Kōritsu Daigaku, widely known as OMU or Hamadai / 公大), established in April 2022 through the integration of two centennial prestigious public institutions—Osaka City University (OCU, founded in 1880 by Tomoatsu Godai) and Osaka Prefecture University (OPU, founded in 1883)—stands as the largest public university in Japan and the second largest metropolitan university after Tokyo Metropolitan University. Operating across multiple specialized campuses in the Kansai metropolis including the historic Sugimoto Campus (Sumiyoshi-ku), the high-tech Nakamozu Campus (Sakai), Abeno Medical Campus, Rinku Veterinary Campus, Habikino Campus, Umeda Satellite, and the brand-new flagship smart urban Morinomiya Campus, OMU educates approximately 16,000 students (including ~12,000 undergraduates and ~4,000 postgraduates) under the guidance of over 1,700 faculty members. The university comprises 1 University-wide College, 11 Undergraduate Faculties/Schools, and 15 comprehensive Graduate Schools spanning Sustainable System Sciences, Literature and Human Sciences, Law and Politics, Economics, Business, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Medicine, Rehabilitation Science, Nursing, Human Life and Ecology, Informatics, and Urban Management.
