About NSCAD University
NSCAD University (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) is Canada’s pre-eminent public institution dedicated exclusively to visual arts, craft, design, and media arts. Founded in 1887 by Anna Leonowens as the Victoria School of Art and Design to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, NSCAD has stood at the international vanguard of contemporary art education for over 135 years. In 1969, NSCAD became the first degree-granting art institution in Canada, establishing a worldwide reputation for avant-garde conceptual art, lithography, and innovative pedagogical models. Today, situated across three vibrant campuses in the Atlantic coastal city of Halifax—Fountain Campus along historic Granville Mall, Port Campus at the Halifax Seaport, and Academy Campus on Brunswick Street—NSCAD offers immersive studio programs across fine arts, crafts, interdisciplinary design, film, and media arts. With dedicated faculty, state-of-the-art workshops, and intimate class sizes, NSCAD empowers visionary creators to shape cultural dialogue and societal change.
