About Norwegian Police University College
The Norwegian Police University College (Politihøgskolen — PHS), established in 1919 as the State Police School (Statens politiskole) and accredited as a specialized university college (vitenskapelig høgskole) in 1992, is Norway’s sole and premier institution for police education, advanced forensic science, operational leadership, and criminological research. Operating under the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Public Security and the National Police Directorate (Politidirektoratet / POD), PHS is internationally celebrated for pioneering the humane, highly educated generalist policing model. The college offers an accredited 3-year Bachelor in Police Studies (Bachelor — politiutdanning, 180 ECTS) delivered across campuses in Oslo, Bodø, and Stavern, as well as specialized Master of Science degrees in Police Science and Criminal Investigation, and an extensive portfolio of accredited continuing postgraduate programmes (etter- og videreutdanning) in cybercrime forensics (NCFI), counter-terrorism, crisis negotiation, and intelligence. As a fully public state-funded higher education institution, tuition is 100% free (NOK 0 / year) for all students. During the mandatory Year 2 operational field placement in Norwegian police districts, cadets receive an official state monthly salary/allowance, and graduates enjoy exceptionally high employment rates across Norway’s twelve police districts, the National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos), and national security agencies.
