About National College of Art and Design
The National College of Art and Design (NCAD – Coláiste Náisiúnta Ealaíne is Deartha), founded in 1746, is Ireland’s oldest, most distinguished, and internationally celebrated third-level art and design university institution. Situated on an evocative 4.5-acre historic industrial heritage site in Dublin’s vibrant creative quarter, The Liberties—occupying the former Powers Whiskey Distillery—NCAD educates approximately 1,600 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral scholars across four renowned schools: School of Fine Art, School of Design, School of Visual Culture, and School of Education. As a Recognised College of University College Dublin (UCD) since 1996, all NCAD undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications are awarded by UCD (ranked in the top 1% of global universities). NCAD stands at the vanguard of European art and design education, ranking among the top art and design universities worldwide (QS World Subject Rankings Top 100). The college features extraordinary studio infrastructure, dedicated individual studio workstations for every fine art and design student, state-of-the-art digital media labs, rapid prototyping, glassblowing and foundry kilns, and the acclaimed NCAD Gallery. Graduates of NCAD have won the Turner Prize, exhibited at the Venice Biennale, and hold lead design roles in global giants like Apple, Philips, Dyson, Brown Thomas, and Pentagram. Non-EU graduates qualify directly for Ireland’s Third Level Graduate Scheme (Stamp 1G post-study work visa: 1 year for Honours Bachelor and 2 years for Master’s graduates).
