About Mie University
Mie University (三重大学 Mie Daigaku, colloquially known as Sandai - 三大), established in 1949 by amalgamating historic tertiary institutions dating back to 1874 (including Mie Normal School and the celebrated 1921 Mie Imperial College of Agriculture and Forestry), is a distinguished National University Corporation situated in Tsu City along the scenic Pacific coastline of Ise Bay (伊勢湾). As the sole comprehensive national university in Mie Prefecture, Mie University is renowned nationally and internationally for pioneering research in Bioresources, Marine Biology, Environmental Sustainability, Advanced Functional Materials, and Regional Healthcare. The university operates on a unified, expansive 52-hectare seaside Kamihama Campus (上浜キャンパス), bringing together all 5 undergraduate faculties (Humanities/Law/Economics, Education, Medicine, Engineering, and Bioresources) and 6 graduate schools (including the innovative Graduate School of Regional Innovation). Mie University holds global renown for its unique International Ninja Research Center (国際忍者研究センター), which applies rigorous historical, literary, scientific, and cultural methodologies to investigate Ninja archives and martial heritage. Serving over 7,500 students with approximately 400 international scholars from over 30 countries, Mie University provides world-class oceanographic research infrastructure (including the training and research vessel Seisui-maru 勢水丸), university hospital clinical rotations, English-medium graduate research tracks, and statutory national university tuition rates backed by 50% to 100% tuition exemptions.
