Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive civic research institution located across Liverpool, Merseyside, in North West England. Tracing its heritage to 1823 with the founding of the Liverpool Mechanics' School of Arts, it developed through the Liverpool Polytechnic before achieving full university status under the Further and Higher Education Act in 1992. Renamed in honor of Sir John Moores—the visionary local retail magnate, philanthropist, and founder of Littlewoods—LJMU is celebrated globally for pioneering innovations across sports and exercise science, astrophysics, maritime logistics, and forensic anthropology.
