Konkuk University (건국대학교 / KU) is a premier private comprehensive research university located in Seoul and Chungju, South Korea. Founded in 1931 by visionary medical doctor and patriot Dr. Yoo Seok-chang (pen name Sanghuh) as the Minjung Hospital to provide humanitarian healthcare to the underprivileged during Japanese colonial rule, the institution established the Chosun Political Science School in 1946 before adopting the enduring name Konkuk ("Founding the Nation") in 1959. Konkuk operates an integrated dual-campus structure comprising its Seoul Main Campus in Gwangjin-gu and the specialized GLOCAL Campus in Chungju. The university holds singular national prestige for operating South Korea’s only private veterinary college, the nation’s foremost academic department in real estate sciences, AACSB-accredited business curricula, and flagship disciplines across animal biotechnology, aerospace and smart mobility engineering, computer software, fine arts and design, and clinical medicine. Spanning a flat, walkable collegiate parkland in eastern Seoul centered around scenic Ilgam Lake (Ilgamho)—one of the largest natural on-campus lakes in South Korea—the campus accommodates the Sanghuh Memorial Library, landmark Sanghuh Hall museum, state-of-the-art engineering complexes, the on-campus tertiary Konkuk University Medical Center (KUMC), the Konkuk University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (KU-VMTH), and the KU:L House high-rise student residential village, directly connected to Konkuk University Station on Seoul Subway Lines 2 and 7.
