About Kangwon National University
Kangwon National University (KNU, 강원대학교) is one of South Korea's prestigious Ten Flagship Korean National Universities (거점국립대학교), serving as the supreme higher education, clinical, and scientific research engine for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. Founded on June 14, 1947 as Chuncheon Agricultural College, KNU has expanded over more than seven decades into a comprehensive multi-campus powerhouse encompassing 19 colleges, 93 departments, and five graduate schools across Chuncheon, Samcheok, and Dogye. KNU is distinguished as one of the select national universities operating an accredited American-style post-graduate Law School (JD) alongside a full College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and College of Veterinary Medicine. Driven by its foundational spirit of Sil-Sa-Gu-Si (실사구시 / 'Seeking truth from facts to reform the world'), KNU leads South Korea in forest and environmental sciences, precision medicine, data-driven bio-health, green hydrogen energy, and emergency disaster engineering, while pioneering the 'Glocal University 30' unified provincial university model.
