About Chatham University
Founded in 1869 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Chatham University is a distinguished private institution renowned for pioneering leadership in environmental sustainability, health sciences, women's advocacy, and innovative professional education. Spanning the historic 39-acre Shadyside arboretum campus in Pittsburgh and the revolutionary 388-acre Eden Hall Campus in Gibsonia—the world’s first campus built from the ground up to showcase sustainable community living, renewable energy, and agroecology—Chatham serves approximately 2,400 students across three distinguished schools: the School of Arts, Science & Business (SASB), the School of Health Sciences (SHS), and the Falk School of Sustainability & Environment (FSSE). Celebrated as the alma mater of pioneering marine biologist and conservationist Rachel Carson (Class of 1929), Chatham continues her enduring legacy through nationally recognized programs in physician assistant studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, creative writing (MFA), sustainable food systems, and business administration. Blending personalized faculty mentorship, rigorous experiential research, high-fidelity clinical simulation, and NCAA Division III athletics in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), Chatham prepares forward-thinking leaders dedicated to purpose, ethical stewardship, and impactful global citizenship.
