About Central Conservatory of Music
Central Conservatory of Music (中央音乐学院 / CCOM) is the foremost higher education institution for music in China. Located in Xicheng District, central Beijing, CCOM was established in 1949 by merging several prestigious music faculties and academies. Administered directly by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, it is the only music conservatory in China designated under the national Double First-Class initiative and the former Project 211 key university program. CCOM is renowned worldwide for training China's leading composers, conductors, soloists, musicologists, and music educators. Notable alumni and faculty include Tan Dun, Chen Qigang, Zhou Long, Ye Xiaogang, Lang Lang, Yu Long, and Lü Jia. The conservatory bridges Western classical traditions with Chinese traditional instrumental performance, ethnomusicology, electronic music production, and instrument craft. Situated around the historic Prince Chun Mansion (Chun Qinwangfu), CCOM blends classical Qing courtyard architecture with modern acoustic concert spaces, specialized violin ateliers, recording studios, and China's largest music research score library.
