About Catholic Private University Linz
Tracing its prestigious history back over 350 years to 1672, the Catholic Private University Linz (Katholische Privatuniversität Linz — KU Linz) is the oldest academic institution of higher learning in Upper Austria. In the year 2000, KU Linz earned historic distinction as the very first accredited private university in the Republic of Austria under the Federal University Accreditation Act (UniStG). Housed within a magnificently preserved baroque and contemporary campus ensemble on Bethlehemstraße in the heart of Linz, KU Linz is internationally acclaimed for its research and teaching across its two cornerstone faculties: the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Philosophy and of Art History. KU Linz combines rich intellectual traditions with modern, critical, and interdisciplinary scholarship. Enrolling an intimate student body of roughly 500 scholars, the university guarantees an extraordinary student-to-faculty ratio, personalized doctoral mentoring, and direct access to the Diözesan- und Universitätsbibliothek Linz (DUB), one of Austria's finest academic humanities repositories holding over 300,000 volumes and rare historic manuscripts. While holding private status, KU Linz maintains highly accessible tuition rates (€363.36 to €500.00 per semester) heavily subsidized by the Diocese of Linz and public partner agreements, making world-class philosophical and theological education accessible to local and international students alike.
