About Birkbeck, University of London
Birkbeck, University of London is a world-class public research university located in Bloomsbury, Central London, and a constituent member college of the federal University of London. Established in 1823 by physician and social reformer Dr. George Birkbeck as the London Mechanics’ Institution, Birkbeck was created with an enlightened mission to educate working individuals and was one of the first higher education colleges to admit women in 1830. Today, Birkbeck occupies a celebrated, unique role in British higher education as London’s specialist evening teaching university, scheduling full university degree programs during weekday evenings (6:00 PM to 9:00 PM) while sustaining internationally recognized research across the sciences, law, psychology, social sciences, business, and humanities.
